Eduardo Terrazas' 1.1.36 and 1.1.136B led a sale of Mexican contemporary art at Sotheby's New York on November 25.

The works, drawn from the artist's Cosmos (a subseries of the Possibilities of Structure series), realised $56,250 as a single lot.

Terrazas painting Sothebys
Terrazas is a well respected Mexican artist

Terrazas is an architect, designer and artist whose work is growing in popularity in his native Mexico.

His work exhibits the influence of local folk arts, combined with the modernist influence of artists like Sol Lewitt.

His work as an architect clearly informs his art, particularly in terms of structure.

Other works in the sale included an untitled piece by Bosco Sodi that sold for $56,250.

Sodi uses a range of media in his paintings, including sawdust, wood pulp and glue, and uses raw pigment.

The works are reliant on the materials available and exhibit subtle differences depending on where they are made.

The present lot was executed in New York in 2011.
