Exceptional 1980s comic art for sale in Paris

Weird, wonderful and obscure comic book artworks will be featured in Artcurial's forthcoming auction, Comic Strips: An Amateur's Collection, on March 13.

Among the exceptional lots is this piece of cover art by Edwin Charles Tubb, published in 1980 for issue number 13 of the Le Masque Science Fiction collection.

The comic issue in which it was featured was entitled La Foire aux Immortels.

This incredible artwork from 1980 is signed and dated by the artist,
Edwin Charles Tubb (estimated at €15,000-17,000)

According to Artcurial, the same artwork was reissued in 1986 in another publication, L'État des Stocks.

Signed and dated by the artist, it carries an impressive estimate of €15,000-17,000.

Drawn in the year of its publication, this rare drawing features the character Nikopol, star of writer Enki Bilal's science fiction comics between 1980-1993.

The sale will be held at Hôtel Marcel Dassault, in Paris.

Comics have emerged as the big new collectible of 2010, after Detective Comics #27 - featuring Batman's first-ever appearance - became the most expensive comic in the world at Heritage.

It sold for an incredible $1,075,500.
