Frieske's On the Beach (Girl in Blue) could make $800,000

On the Beach (Girl in Blue) by Frederick Carl Frieske (1874-1939) is to lead a sale of American art at Heritage Auctions in New York.

Frieske was a US-born impressionist painter who lived most of his life in France. He was an important member of the Giverny art colony, where a number of American expat artists took up residence.

On the Beach was painted during a sojourn to Corsica in 1913, and demonstrates Frieske's emphasis on natural, sunlit compositions.

In 2006, Frieske's The Garden Pool realised $2.3m at Christie's New York, setting a new auction record for the artist.

Torch Bearers (1955) by Anna Hyatt Huntington (1876-1973) is valued at $400,000-600,000.

The bronze statue shows a horseman being passed a torch representing civilisation and progress. It was installed in the grounds of the Discovery Museum in Bridgeport, Connecticut upon its completion in 1963.

Four casts of the sculpture were made and are located in Havana, Cuba, the University of Madrid in Spain, the Chrysler Museum in Virginia and the Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey.

Lucinda, Mexican Girl (1916) by Robert Henri (1865-1929) could make $400,000-600,000.

Robert Henri was a member of the Ashcan school, and a principal organiser of The Eight exhibition that significantly raised the profile of the group.

His painting Jessica Penn in Black with White Plumes sold for $3.6m at Christie's New York in 2005 - an auction record for the artist.
