Gerhard Richter's Abstraktes Bild among highlights at Christie's

Gerhard Richter's Abstraktes Bild (811-2) is to lead Christie's contemporary art evening sale on June 29.

The auction house comments: "Abstraktes Bild 811-2 (1994) is a gorgeous apparition, encapsulating the strongest elements of Richter's abstract practice at one of the most jubilant moments of his career…

"Despite Richter's many claims to the contrary, the work appears to betray a sense of his own emotional life, the ebullient rhythms of red and malachite resonating with a recent surge of artistic and critical success."

There is no estimate available for the work, but going by past sales it's likely to achieve an eight figure sum.

Richter's work has a large following in the art market and vies with Jeff Koons for the title of the world's most valuable living artist.

His record is £30.4m ($42.9m), set for another Abstraktes Bild painting at Sotheby's last year.

The sale will also feature Andy Warhol's Two Dollar Bills, which is offered with a valuation of £4-6m ($5.6m-8.4m).

The silkscreen print is one of an edition of 10 and the only one to show the front of the bills rather than the back.

It was executed in 1962, making it one of Warhol's earliest prints, and was produced from his own drawings in contrast to his later work.

Warhol's One Dollar Bill made £20.8m ($32.7m) in an auction last year.
