Gilbert & George's Pissed auctions for $131,500

Pissed, an intriguing artwork by British duo Gilbert & George, auctioned at Christie's London yesterday (April 17). It sold for £85,857 ($131,646).

Pissed belongs to the pair's Fundamental Pictures series, alongside Shit, Piss, Spunk, Spit and Blood

Starring a naked George being supported by an ever-dapper Gilbert, as well as six enlarged, hand-coloured, microscopic images of urine, the 1996 canvas typifies the pair's artistic output.

Works by Gilbert & George are popular among collectors of contemporary art. In May 2004, another intoxicant-inspired artwork, 1974's A Drinking Sculpture, brought $400,000 to Phillips de Pury.

We have a number of art and photography collectibles in stock, including this remarkable, signed Salvador Dali original.
