Herge’s Tintin mural design to sell in October

Tintin creator Herge’s design for a mural is to cross the block at Librairie Lhomme in Liege, Belgium on October 21.

The piece consists of two large illustrations, measuring 33.4” and 37.4” in length, which Herge (1907-1983) drew up for a mural in the Stockel metro station in Brussels in 1983.

The mural features hundreds of characters

It was the last thing he finished before his death.

The Telegraph newspaper reports that Herge’s successor at Herge Studios, Bob de Moor, gifted the sketch to a subway worker after work was complete.

There’s no estimate for the piece, but it’s likely to sell for a sum in the low millions.

Herge’s work is in very high demand of late.

His overall record stands at $3.4m, set in 2014 for a page of illustrations used as the inside cover to a series of Tintin publications during the 1930s and 1950s.
