Tintin in Tibet is the 20th book in the series

The Adventures of Tintin was first published in Le Petit Vingtieme, a children's supplement that accompanied a Belgian newspaper, in 1929.

Since then the series has become a global phenomenon, with over 200m copies of the various books sold in 70 different languages alongside a range of stage and screen adaptations.

In 2012, the original cover illustration for Tintin in America sold for $1.6m at Artcurial in Paris - setting a new world record for a piece of comic book art.

An illustration by Albert Uderzo, co-creator of the Asterix and Obelisk series, is estimated at $206,421-233,644.

The piece was prepared for the cover of Asterix and the Soothsayer, published in 1972.

The series, written by Rene Goscinny and illustrated by Udzero, has been in publication for over 50 years, with the first book issued in 1961.

To date 325m copies of the books have been sold worldwide, making it one of the most popular French cultural exports.
