Founded in 1963 by Evans Richard, Tiziani was highly successful, attracting a range of high profile clients. The auction also included work from Guy Douvier, the designer who replaced Lagerfeld.

Over 300 sketches were featured, dating from 1963 to 1969, which showcase the industry's transition from haute couture to ready to wear fashion.

A number were specifically designed for the actress Elizabeth Taylor, who was much enamoured of the label.

Lagerfeld began his career as a freelance fashion designer at high end labels such as Balmain and Chloe, before becoming the lead designer for Chanel.

A faceted Cityscape cabinet by Paul Evans was another high profile lot of the sale, achieving $30,000.

The chromed metal cabinet features doors that fold out to reveal storage space.

A designer in the American arts and crafts tradition, Evans is best known for his large scale pieces constructed from industrial materials.

In 2012 a Sculpture Front cabinet by Evans sold for $269,000 at Sotheby's New York - an increase of 79.3% on a $150,000 estimate.
