Ludwig Deutsch’s At Prayer valued at $773,000

Ludwig Deutsch’s At Prayer (1923) will headline an auction of Orientalist art at Christie’s.

The piece shows a Muslim man preparing to pray.

Deutsch Prayer Sothebys

Deutsch is among the most celebrated Orientalist painters

As Europeans were not allowed into mosques, most Orientalist artists based their depictions of Islamic prayer on third hand sources.

This piece is typical of Deutsch’s later style and exhibits his usual incredible eye for the complexities of Middle Eastern patterns and textiles.

The piece is valued at £400,000-600,000 ($515,296-772,944).
