MacDougall's follows its June $17m 'Russian art boom' with new sale

Paul Fraser Collectibles has been focussing its attentions on the Indian and Arabian art markets of late - but we shouldn't forget that the Russian art markets have also been enjoying a boom in recent times.

Among the auction houses which have benefitted most from this rise in Russian art collecting is MacDougall's, whose next big sale is to be held in London on December 1-2.

This Ivan Shishkin piece will appear estimated at £900,000-1,200,000

The auction promises a superb selection of significant works by important Russian artists from the 19th-20th centuries, including Natalia Goncharova, Robert Falk, Petr Konchalovsky, Nicholas Roerich, Ilya Repin, Ivan Shishkin and Ivan Aivazovsky.

MacDougall's previous Russian art event in June 2010 recorded total sales of more than £10m ($16,095,200) - and was "the Second Largest Paintings Auction of Russian Week," according to its website.

The auctioneer will no doubt be hoping that its December sale continues this success.

Other sales highlights include a work by Ivan Aivazovsky (above),
estimated at £800,000–1,200,000; and this town landscape by Ilya
Repin, estimated at £750,000–1,200,000

The art will be sold over two days, with Russian works on paper auctioning on Wednesday December 1 and Russian icons, Russian Classic and Contemporary Art pieces appearing for sale on December 2.

The sale will be held in London. Catalogues are now available on MacDougall's website. Watch this space for upcoming news on the auction.
