Mary Blair's Small World concept art to exceed $12,000 at Heritage?

Bidding on illustrator Mary Blair's original concept art for Disneyland's It's A Small World ride starts at $12,000 at Heritage Auctions.

The lot is likely to prove one of the highlights of the July 1-2 Animation Art auction in New York.

Mary Blair Disney
Mary Blair created the concept art for Disney's It's a Small World ride in 1964

Blair (1911-1978) was one of Disney's most influential concept artists, responsible for the look of some of the most iconic features in the company's canon - including Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland.

She created the concept art for the look and styling of the ride's exterior for the 1964 New York World's Fair.

The pavilion was initially created for Pepsi and was later dismantled and moved to the Disneyland site in California - where it remains in operation today.

A piece of concept art by Eyvind Earle (1916-2000), the designer in charge of the look of Disney's Sleeping Beauty, carries a minimum bid of $10,000.

The piece depicts Prince Phillip launching his sword at the evil Maleficent, who has transformed into a dragon.

Earle was responsible for the film's styling and background and was given a large degree of creative freedom on the project, often spending up to 10 days working on a single backdrop.

The sale will also include an animation cel from Disney's 1935 short Mickey's Service Station.

We have this first edition copy of Walt Disney's World of Fantasy featuring signatures from a wealth of voice actors and artists - including Marc Davis, the designer responsible for the look of Maleficent.
