Sotheby's is set to host an auction of important Picasso studio artworks from the collection of the artist's granddaughter Marina Picasso.
The Picasso in Private auction, which is expected to achieve in the region of $10m-$15m, will include rare sculptures, ceramics and works on paper which spent years in his studio and then passed down through the generations of his family.

Leading the works on paper are the pen and ink sketch Chevalier picador dans l'ar?�ne, dated March 1951, estimated at $179,000-$269,000; a collage entitled Nature morte aux fruits, created in November 1945, is estimated at $152,228-$228,000; and a pen on paper cut-out entitled Visage de femme, valued at $269,000-$373,000.
Among the most notable sculptural and ceramic works are Femme debout, a unique plaster sculpture made in 1945, estimated at $74,500-$105,000; and the hand-painted plate Visage, masque, soleil, dating from May 1957 and valued at $74,500-$105,000.
"This wonderful collection presents an intimate view of the artist in his moments of creation, as though we are standing at Picasso's shoulder, able to observe his creative process as he reinvented himself as an artist over and over again," said Helena Newman, co-head of Sotheby's impressionist & modern art worldwide.
"Picasso's drawings and unique ceramics allow one to get right up close to the artist at the very genesis of the development of many of his core elemental themes."
Highlights from the sale will be exhibited at Sotheby's in New York on January 13-17 before heading to London on January 28, prior to the sale on February 5.
