Pistoletto's Scrivania con Computers to lead at Phillips

Scrivania con Computers (2008) by Michelangelo Pistoletto will lead a contemporary art day sale at Phillips in London on February 11.

It will carry an estimate of £150,000-200,000 ($244,965-408,275).

Michelangelo Pistoletto mirror painting
Pistoletto began his series of mirror paintings in the late 1960s

The work, a silkscreen print on a stainless steel mirror, depicts an empty desk and everyday office equipment.

Pistoletto is closely tied to the Arte Povera movement, a radical Italian collective originating at the tail end of the 1960s that rejects symbolism and emphasises simplicity.

His work from this era onward is dominated by his mirror paintings, which reflect the observer - making them an active participant in the work.

The Selfish Gene, a sculpture by British artist Marc Quinn, is valued at £80,000-120,000 ($130,648-195,972).

The painted bronze work depicts two skeletons having sex.

Quinn is associated with the Young British Artists (YBAs), a loose-knit group that grew in influence in London in the late 1980s and includes Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst among its luminaries.

The record for Quinn's work at auction was set at Christie's New York in 2011 when Myth Venus, a sculpture of Kate Moss, made $1.2m.

Also featured is Chris Ofili's Pramnian Odyssey 2 (2003-2011), a painting that includes leather and gold leaf.

Ofili won the Turner Prize in 1998, becoming the first painter to do so since 1985.
