Rare Ansel Adams photographs could snap at $90,000 in New York

Swann of New York's photography sale tomorrow (October 18) boasts some very special works by the likes of Ansel Adams, Vik Muniz and William Klein.

Among the auction's highlights is What Majestic Word, In Memory of Russell Varian by Adams. Dated to 1963, the lot includes 15 beautiful photographs of landscapes and details of the natural world, all estimated at $60,000-90,000.

Each bears Adams' signature in ink, with featured locations including the Yosemite Valley where Adams drew inspiration for some of his finest works.

Meanwhile, New York visual artist Vik Muniz's Eleven Eggs is estimated at $6,000-9,000 - a price suitable for entry-level investors. Dating to 1997, the work is from Muniz's Pictures of Soil series of photographs.

Bearing Muniz's signature alongside the title and date, the rare work is numbered five of 10.

Finally, another star lot in the sale is by William Klein. Noted for his ironic approach, Klein's ambiguous capturing of Club Allegro Fortissimo, Paris, dates to 1990 and is expected to sell for $4,000-6,000.

More details on these lots and others can be found at Swann's website. Live online bidding is also available meaning it isn't too late to take part in tomorrow's sale.

Swann will have especially high hopes for the Ansel Adams works.

The photographer's iconic works have serially performed well at the world's top auctions over the years - especially his majestic photographs of American landscapes.

Adams's Clearing Winter Storm sold for a staggering $481,000 at Christie's in 2008.
