Rare 'panoramique' wallpaper art could bring $15,786 in Paris auction

Here's a quick look at the latest goings-on in France's art markets. Notable upcoming sales include this rare French art piece billed as "Campagnes romaines, rare papier peint panoramique". It is auctioning in Paris, tomorrow (February 9).

The 'artwork' is actually wallpaper. The anonymous work dates to 1810-1820 and features a panoramique view dotted with Italian monuments, rendered in shades of brown on cream paper.

This wallpaper artwork's original designer is unknown, although it's originality has been confirmed by experts.

There are 25 strips in total. Noted landmarks depicted in the landscape include the Temple of Vesta, the columns of the Temple of Castor and Pollux, and the portico of Octavia.

The auctioneer's lot notes mention gaps and splits in the work. More details on the condition of the wallpaper are available on request.
