Saturday Evening Post covers are big news at Heritage

Heritage Auction's April 11-12 Illustration Art Signature Auction will feature original cover artwork from the Saturday Evening Post, with JC Leyendecker's Honeymoon expected to lead at $80,000+.

Leyendecker Honeymoon Evening Post
The piece has been consigned by a collector whose mother was a close friend of the artist

Leyendecker's Honeymoon, considered one of his finest works, was published on the front page of the then-weekly US publication on July 17, 1926.

The magazine is renowned for its art covers, which have featured the work of America's top illustrators such as the legendary Norman Rockwell.

Also starring will be John Falter's Antique Store Accident, published on June 20, 1959, which holds an estimate of $40,000+, and Thorton Utz's Love's Lost Child at Information Booth, a 1958 cover valued at $30,000+.

This fantastic example of EH Shepard's satirical illustrations for Punch Magazine provides a rare opportunity to own a piece executed in the Winnie-the-Pooh artist's favoured style. Shepard felt that his work with "that silly old bear" undermined his efforts as a political cartoonist and grew to resent AA Milne's character.
