Fresh to the market works always attract strong attention, and equally strong bids

Held on May 19, the auction saw a new world record for the artist's work, with his first self-portrait selling for $770,000 - making a 208% increase on its $250,000 high estimate.

In total, the auction realised $2.9m, up 252.3% on the predicted $828,060. All of the works were consigned by a close personal friend of Shiy Dejinn and had never been seen on the market before.

In May, a series of four scroll paintings by Zhang Daquian, formerly the world's most valuable living artist, sold for $10.4m at Sotheby's.
