Tim Boxer's Polaroid collection to auction for $30,000 through Doyle?

A magnificent collection of signed celebrity Polaroids taken by society photographer Tim Boxer is to star in Doyle New York's November 25 Rare Books, Autograph and Photographs auction.

The collection comprises 212 signed and inscribed shots, most of which date from between 1976 and 1981. It holds an overall estimate of $20,000-30,000, and will be sold as a single lot.

Boxer began his career as a photographer, assistant and ghost writer for the New York Post's society columnist Earl Wilson in the 1970s. Through his work, he was able to attend countless high profile events and exclusive nightclubs, providing him with the perfect opportunity to capture celebrities.

Boxer carried two cameras with him at all times: a Nikon that was used for official photographs and the Polaroid camera, which he would use to candidly snap stars in private moments, before asking them to sign it.

Andy Warhol also employed a Polaroid camera to produce posed shots of many of the same stars as Boxer, with the pair working at the same time. Today, Boxer runs a society website called 15 Minutes Magazine, which takes its name from Warhol's famous quote, "In the future everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes".

Included in the collection are shots of Andy Warhol, Jacqueline Onassis, Truman Capote, Liz Taylor, Sean Connery and Robert De Niro, as well as young stars such as Bill Murray, Meryl Streep, Sylvester Stallone and Farrah Fawcett.

Paul Fraser Collectibles has an exceptional collection of celebrity signed photographs for sale.
