Untitled Anish Kapoor work to headline contemporary art sale in London

An untitled work by Anish Kapoor is expected to bring £450,000-650,000 ($760,000-1.1m) when it crosses the block at Bonhams London on July 2.

The lot, which will headline the post war and contemporary art auction, was created in 2005 and is typical of Kapoor's recent work - which primarily consist of huge polished mirrors.

Kapoor is best known for his large-scale interactive public works that have included a giant inflatable structure in Paris' Grand Palais and the Orbit in London, which was commissioned for the 2012 Olympics.

His auction record stands at a relatively low $1.9m (set in 2008) despite his status as one of the world's highest profile living artists.

This is primarily due to the fact that Kapoor rarely creates multiples, focusing instead on public commissions.

He stated in a 2010 interview with Bloomberg: "I'm not interested in art that is about the market: I find that small, small-mindedǪ

"All artists are after the idea that the work enduresǪMonetary value is part of the test of endurance."

On Kawara's June 10, 1967 from the Today series is valued at £120,000180,000 ($200,000-310,000).

Each painting in the series consists of the date painted in white on a background of varying hues, reflecting the insecurity that followed the bombing of Hiroshima. The painting is destroyed if it is not finished by the end of the day.

His auction record stands at $4.1m - set for May 1, 1987 at Christie's New York in May this year.
