Video of the Week... Beaumont Newhall and the History of Photography

We love photography at Paul Fraser Collectibles - and apparently so do investors, as the markets for photographic art and memorabilia have been doing really well in 2010.

And, as our Video of the Week today shows, a man central to the success and high regard of photographs is Beaumont Newhall who, throughout the 20th century, was a central figure in the evolution of photography into a recognised art form.

Newhall is regarded by many as a founding father of the history of photography - meaning that he pioneered serious study into the area - as well as being a photographer, curator, art historian, writer, scholar and teacher.

His influence can be traced all the way back to 1938, when he created the first retrospective exhibition of the then-100-years-old art of photography. His influence aided photographers like Ansell Adams in championing the medium when few recognised it as a legitimate art form.

This documentary highlights some of Beaumont's experiences of being a lifelong friend, mentor and confident of many photographers who are now in the annals of history - and it's well worth a watch.
