1930s Russian photograph album to make $7,000 at Dreweatts?

An album of photographs taken in Russia in the 1930s is among the top lots at Dreweatts and Bloomsbury's Autographs, Manuscripts and Documents sale on June 5.

The lot carries an estimate of £3,000-4,000 ($5,000-6,722).

Russian photo album
The photo album was compiled in Russia in the early 1930s

They were taken by a German Marxist group known as ARPLAN or "Consortium for the Study of the Soviet Planned Economy" and consist of various group portraits, buildings and attendant propaganda.

The group is described by Dreweatts as "a strange combination of the neo-Marxists of the Frankfurt School such as György Lukács, Karl Wittfogel and Henryk Grossman (photograph included in this album) and the elitist Volkisch and 'socialistic' circles of the National Bolshevists around Ernst Niekisch and elitist writer warriors such as Ernst Jünge".

A card from the New York jazz club The Three Deuces signed by Charlie "Bird" Parker is also estimated to make 3,000-4,000 ($5,041-6,722).

Charlie Parker signature
Charlie Parker signed the card when he performed at the Three Deuces in New York

Dreweatts commented: "Examples of Parker's signature are particularly sought after, and this is an especially clear example."

The lot is sold alongside a photograph of Parker in the Three Deuces alongside Bobbie Kevin, a drummer with the Ken Mackintosh band to whom the inscription is addressed.

We have this extraordinary piece of jazz history, an autograph manuscript featuring original music from the legendary John Coltrane.
