A Barack Obama signed NCAA basketball bracket could make up to $40,000 next month.
The lot is selling as part of Alexander Historical Auctions’ Black Heritage Auction Spring sale on April 7.
Obama is a passionate follower of college basketball
Following Obama’s election, he started appearing annually on ESPN (in a segment titled “Barack-etology”) to pick out the winner of the college basketball season.
He got it right only once, in 2009, when he chose North Carolina for the title.
In the present lot, he again picks North Carolina as the overall winner although it was Kentucky that would clinch the championship.
The lot is expected to bring $30,000-40,000.
Memorabilia associated with Barack Obama is selling well at auction, in part due to his historic status as America’s first black president.
Earlier this year two chairs from his 2008 campaign bus realised $28,500 against a $6,000 estimate.
Other highlights of the auction include a rare 1969 Black Panther Party armband.
It was taken by a Playboy reporter from the home of party chairman Fred Hampton, who was murdered by police as he slept on December 4, 1969.
It’s valued at $5,000-6,000, although its extreme rarity and connection to Hampton could see it go for substantially more.
In 2013, a Black Panther flag made by the organisation’s Alabama chapter achieved $36,000 at Swann Auction Galleries.
