Barack Obama handwritten note to make $15,000?

A handwritten, signed note from former US president Barack Obama is estimated to hit around $15,000 in a February 7 sale at RR Auction.

The letter is addressed to a woman named Jessica Cline, who wrote to Obama in 2010 expressing the hardships she and her husband were going through.

Barack Obama note

Obama wrote to Jennifer Cline in 2010, after receiving a letter

At the time of writing, she had just lost her job and been diagnosed with cancer – a diagnosis she was facing without any health insurance.

Obama writes in full: “Thanks for the very kind and inspiring letter.

“I know times are tough, but knowing there are folks out there like you and your husband give me confidence that things will keep getting better!"

A couple of months later he introduced the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, a huge stimulus package that gradually lifted the US economy from the worst of the mire.

The note proved more than a nice gesture to the Clines.

The family sold it for $7,000 in November 2010, enough money to pay off some of their bills.

Obama signed letters are rare at auction, but there are plenty out there that may well come to light in the future.

The former president was fastidious about reading 10 handpicked letters from American citizens each night before he went to bed, in order to keep in touch with the issues facing the country.

He would often take the time to write these short notes in reply.
