Bid Me Baby One More Time... Britney's wedding memorabilia sells on eBay

Weddings can be a pretty stressful affair. You need to book the caterers, arrange the seating plans, and make sure your $350 apiece ivory lace invitations are covered with Swarovski crystals...

The last part may sound a little extravagant, unless you happen to be Britney Spears. Because as a unique online auction is currently proving, she spared no expense for her big day when marrying former back-up dancer Kevin Federline.

The personal collection of memorabilia is being sold through the auction site eBay by Federline's grandfather Earl Story, who intends to use the proceeds to fund his retirement.

Along with the wedding invitations, the collection includes a crystal covered baby shower invitation, fourteen original wedding photographs (many of which are previously unseen), two rose petal holders from the reception and a number of other items.

Also included is a hat worn by K-Fed to an awards ceremony, signed by himself and Spears, along with a personal letter written to Kevin's grandmother by U.S agony Uncle supreme Dr Phil, who wished to interview her about her grandson's divorce.

The collection is offered with a starting bid of $1,000, and Earl Story hopes the items will make their way into the hands of a genuine fan.

Spears is currently travelling the U.S with her 'Femme Fatale' tour, which makes its way to Europe this Autumn, so her profile is currently back in the ascendance. But as fans of Spears will no doubt testify, her well-documented ability to self-destruct means that her career path has been unpredictable at best.

In terms of memorabilia, there are a number of other artists who can offer collectors a far more secure investment. The strongest markets are those of recognised legends whose music careers have been both influential and long lasting.

Artists like Michael Jackson, John Lennon or Madonna have all made the transition from musician to icon, and their memorabilia will always be sought after as their place in musical history is assured.

Britney's legacy is less assured, and unless her next album turns out to be a groundbreaking Sgt Pepper-esque psychedelic rock epic we would suggest that in investment terms, true musical legends are always the way to go.
