Brooklyn Dodgers autographed baseball features in online auction

A baseball autographed by several members of the 1949 Brooklyn Dodgers is currently auctioning at PFC Auctions' online sale.

The superb official National League Ford Frick baseball bears the signatures of future hall of famers Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Duke Snider and Pee Wee Reese as well as several other members of the triumphant 1955 World Series team.

Don’t “wait ‘til next year” on this one

As professional sport returns to Brooklyn in the form of the NBA's Nets it is a good time to reflect on one of the most heartfelt demises experienced in baseball.

Brooklyn still mourns for the loss of its Dodgers to Los Angeles.

It has been said that the soul of the city was lost following the team's move west after the 1957 season. It helps explain why Dodgers memorabilia is in such great demand.

Jackie Robinson's game used bat from the team's World Series loss to the Yankees in 1956 sold for $70,000 at Heritage Auctions in August of this year, while Pee Wee Reese's World Series ring achieved $69,000 at Sotheby's in 2004.

PFC Auctions' spokesperson, Kylie Whitehead, comments: "The presence of four future hall of famers' signatures gives this baseball incredible collectible appeal.

"While many locals still hold out hope that the Dodgers may one day return home, until that happens, superb pieces of memorabilia such as this are the next best thing, and a wonderful way to remember a golden era of baseball."

The auction, which runs until September 27, also stars a signed photograph from Babe Ruth, featuring the Bambino shaking hands with broadcaster Sid Loberfield before a game at Yankee Stadium.
