A letter Lee Harvey Oswald sent to his mother from the Soviet Union in 1962 has sold for $51,240.

He travelled to Russia on a short visa and on his arrival announced to his very confused Russian guides that he wished to stay.
He married a young Russian woman, Marina Prusakova, and returned to the US in May 1962 - just over a year before he shot President John F Kennedy from a sixth storey window of the Texas School Book Depository in Dallas.
He writes [sic]: "Well, I have pretty good news we shall receive our visa's about the middle of February, which means we may arrive in the U.S. about the 1st of March give or take a month or so…
"You can tell the Red Cross that at this writing my wife has been granted non-quoto immigration stutus for entrance into the United States, and that both of us have now recivied Soviet exit visa's to leave the Soviet Union…
"We receivied you Christmas card with Photo's they were very good, both of us enjoyed them very much."
