A rare 13th century French Hebrew Bible sold for $550,000 at Sotheby's last month.

Hebrew Bible France

The Bible was printed in France during the middle ages

French Jews had a particularly tough time of it during the middle ages. They were expelled from France at the beginning of the 12th century, but were allowed to return in 1198.

This exquisitely decorated book is the only one remaining in private hands.

New York’s MoMA acquired a 14th century Spanish Hebrew Bible for an undisclosed sum in the same sale.
