Blaise Cendrars and Sonia Delauney's Transsiberien to make $202,500?

Blaise Cendrars and Sonia Delauney's La prose du Transsiberien et de la Petite Jehanne de France (1913) is to auction at Sotheby's Paris on October 7.

It's valued at $161,917-202,397.

Cendrars and Delauney
Cendrars and Delauney published the book in a run of around 60 in 1913

The title translates to Prose of the Trans-Siberian and of Little Jehanne of France. It features a poem by modernist writer Cendrars and artwork by Delauney - a major figure in the cubist movement.

Only 60 copies were printed of an intended edition of 150. Of these, only around 30 are known to have survived, with the vast majority held in the collections of various museums and galleries.

The work unfolds to a height of 199cm. Had all 150 been printed the height of each placed end to end was intended to equal the height of the Eiffel Tower (301m) - a prominent theme in the work.

A copy inscribed by Cendrars to his wife sold for $621,082 at Christie's Paris in 2012.

Also on offer is a copy of Guillaume Appollinaire's Le Medallion Toujours Ferme ($116,289-155,053), featuring seven hand-written poems to his lover Marie Laurencin.

Appollinaire (1880-1918) came up with the term "surrealist" and was one of the founding members of the movement.

Famously he was arrested in 1911 (along with Picasso) for the theft of the Mona Lisa from the Louvre, although they were later exonerated.
