JM Barrie's Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens to make $5,000?

A signed first edition copy of JM Barrie and Arthur Rackham's Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens is valued at £2,000-3,000 ($3,198-4,797) ahead of a November 25 sale at Bonhams London.

The lot is numbered 143 of 500, with an autograph from illustrator Rackham.

Peter Pan Kensington
Barrie partially rewrote Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens from an earlier novel titled The Little White Bird

Barrie wrote four books featuring Peter Pan, his most famous literary character. He originated in a popular 1904 play titled Peter Pan, or the Boy who Never Grew Up.

Following the success of the book, Barrie commissioned a statue to stand in the gardens.

A rare first edition copy of Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic is valued at £1,000-1,500 ($1,599-2,398).

Bonhams comment: "The first printing is said to have comprised 500 copies, but 400 of these were seemingly issued to libraries making fine copies difficult to come by."

The lot also displays an overlay printed over the blurb on the inside jacket due to a mix up at the printer.

The rarity of Pratchett's early books coupled with his enormous popularity is likely to drive his market forward in the coming years.

Also on offer is a first edition copy of Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile, which carries an estimate of £1,000-1,500 ($1,600-2,400).
