Joseph Mendham ecclesiastical books 100% sold in 'white glove' auction

Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions offered the Joseph Mendham Collection of Ecclesiastical Books on March 20, with 100% sold to mark a "white glove" auction.

Joseph Mendham was a staunch Protestant advocate, as reflected in his book collection

Joseph Mendham (1769-1856) was an English clergyman and controversialist, studying the differences between the Catholic and Protestant faiths as a staunch Protestant advocate.

His book collection contains some of the most important religious texts, with 339 lots achieving a total £357,392 ($589,264).

Top lot of the sale was a rare copy of the New Testament in both Greek and Latin from 1535, prepared by Desiderius Erasmus and printed by Johann Froben of Basel, which sold for £10,800 ($17,806).
