Porsche is the main reason for July's upswing. Classics from the German marque soared by 4.4% during the month.

Mercedes-Benz has been the best performer of the year to date, up 6.1% - despite falling by 2.2% in July.

The next big test for the classic car market is the Monterey auction series later this month.

Among the highlights is a $10m-estimated 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta at RM Sotheby's.
