New 1993 Porsche Carrera RSR could make $2.3m

RM Sotheby’s is to sell a brand new 1993 Porsche Carrera RSR.

The car has a jaw-dropping 10km on the clock and is still coated in its original layer of Cosmoline, a rust inhibitor applied at the factory.

Porsche Carrera new

The Porsche is one of two RSRs with a leather trimmed interior

Its single owner ordered the lot brand new and appears to have driven it once, before squirrelling it away in their collection.

Only 51 of these RSR versions were made.

They were designed exclusively for racing and the majority have been driven into the ground.

RM Sotheby’s descries this specimen as “thoroughly and absolutely original”.

With a valuation of $2.1m-2.3m, the lot is almost certain to set a record for the model. Other Carrera RSRs generally sell for around $500,000, showing just how rare this example is.

A 1953 Bentley R-Type continental sports saloon is also on offer, with an estimate of $1m-1.4m.

Even by Bentley standards, the R-Type was a particularly luxurious model and no expense was spared on the design.

While the chassis indicates this was the 20th car in the series, it was actually the 19th.

Like a lot of British makers at the time, Bentley skipped the number 13 due to superstition.

The sale will also include a 1937 Talbot-Lago T150-C SS “Goute d’Eau” coupe featuring wildly eccentric coachwork by Figoni et Falaschi.
