Pope Francis’ Lamborghini Huracan offered for charity

Pope Francis was gifted a brand new, limited edition Lamborghini Huracan by the veteran Italian marque in Rome this morning.

But the pontiff isn’t planning to upgrade from the Popemobile anytime soon.

Pope Francis Lambo

Pope Francis was gifted the Lamborghini in Vatican City this morning

He'd prefer a convertible (Ba Dum Tss).

Instead the car will be auctioned with funds earmarked to repair homes in Christian communities in Iraq, for medical groups providing aid in poorer regions of Africa, and for organisations working to end sex trafficking.

The Huracan is decked out with a white and gold colour scheme inspired by the Papal garb.

Pope Francis also signed and blessed it in a ceremony, before handing it over to Sotheby’s (which is handling the sale).

Brand new Huracans retail for around $237,000, but this example is almost certain to go for a great deal more.

In 2015, a Harley-Davidson gifted to (and blessed by) the Pope realised $325,904. The model, a 1,585CC FXDC Dyna Super Glide Custom, typically sells for around $13,000.

If the present lot achieves a similar mark-up, we’re looking at a result of over $2m.

We’re offering an exclusive piece of the red carpet rolled out for Pope Benedict XVI on his first official visit to the UK in 2010.
