BBC Play School's Humpty toy to make $1,200 at Bonhams

Nostalgic collectors will be falling over themselves at Bonhams later this month, as an iconic Humpty toy from the beloved BBC kids show Play School crosses the block.

Humpty even received his own fan mail, proving more popular than presenters Johnny Ball and Floella Benjamin

One of only three made, the doll featured in almost every episode during the show's 24-year run, airing between 1964 and 1988. Selling on May 20 in Oxford, it's valued at ?800-1,200 ($1,300-2,000).

Such was Humpty's popularity among Britain's eagerly watching children, he apparently received his own fan mail. Starring alongside legendary presenters Johnny Ball and Floella Benjamin, he was featured in the very first episode .

Play School was a pioneering TV show, with Paul Danquah becoming the first black host of a children's TV show in 1966. It became the first TV show to play on the BBC's newly launched BBC Two channel after an error meant that programming was disrupted.

Also featuring in the sale is a brown mohair Steiff teddy bear from the 1930s, which remains in remarkable condition and is valued at ?1,000-1,500 ($1,700-2,500)
