Buck Rogers's futuristic memorabilia comes to Dan Morphy's this week

Morphy's first toy sale of 2011 will be held on Saturday, January 29, and features a varied array of fresh to the market collections of toys, banks, baseball cards and quality pop culture collectibles.

The company has a well-established record when it comes to toy sales, notably the Mark Solondz collection of Japanese robots and superheroes, one piece from which we had to include in our Top Five Collectible Toys list.

Morphy's first collection slated to cross the auction block is a small but select assortment of 1950s/60s baseball cards which can be strong investments.

This all-star grouping is loaded with iconic players such as Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Sandy Koufax, Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron and other ballpark legends. The premier lot in this collection is a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie card in beautiful condition.

Next on the roster is a super collection of more than 40 original Hartland figures, many with their original boxes. The majority of these figures are in near-mint to mint condition. Some of the top examples include Canadian Mountie Sgt. Lance O'Rourke, Davy Crockett, Johnny McKay and a Chief Thunderbird prototype.

A Morphy Auctions sale would not be complete without fine antique mechanical and still banks. Heading up the mechanicals is a fresh estate collection amassed over more than 50 years. Included are several examples in near-mint-plus condition, including a Magician, Butting Buffalo, Uncle Sam, Lion & Two Monkeys, Bad Accident and several other prime examples.

The still bank section contains numerous rare examples in beautiful condition. Among the still bank top lots are a General Butler, Moody & Sankey, Globe Savings, Gingerbread House, Blue Statue of Liberty, and a fantastic line-up of building and house banks.

The Buck Rogers collection to be offered is one of the best of its type known to exist. There are many seldom-seen pieces in this futuristic collection, including a Buck Rogers Strip Card Set, a Fireworks Display Set, an original Buck Rogers uniform and helmet, and a Buck Rogers Scout's patch.

Toy collectors will be surprised and thrilled with some of the other outstanding pieces to be auctioned on January 29, like an original Secor Banjo Player, a Nifty Hi-Way Henry, an Arcade Yellow Coach Double Decker Bus, a Buddy 'L' Line Truck, and a Captain Scarlet uniform in its original box.

'Fun' is always the watchword at a Morphy Auctions sale, and who doesn't enjoy a good time with friends? The event takes place on January 29th in Denver, Pennsylvania, USA with various forms of absentee bidding available.
