Could this be another big hit for Babe Ruth?

Collectors who missed out on the historic OAL (Bernard) baseball signed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig at Heritage Auction Galleries' Sunday Sports Auction, last month, are in with another chance.

Heritage's currently Sunday Sports Auction is set to draw to a close this Sunday (March 21), and features a multi-signed baseball bearing a side panel signature by Babe Ruth himself.

Ruth's signature can be clearly seen in 5-6/10 ink, alongside two other illegible autographs.

The ball is unofficial, with signs of heavy toning, previous shellacking and excess ink along the stitches.

It will appear at Heritage with a predicted value of $1,500-2,500.

The ball's higher estimate is slightly above the $2,031.50 realised by the Ruth-Gehrig ball in February.

Prior to that sale, $3,107 was the price achieved by a slightly-scuffed ball signed by just Babe Ruth. It was auctioned on February 7, also at Heritage.

Elsewhere in the autographs and memorabilia markets, Ruth's highly-collectible autograph has been known to command prices three or four times higher.

But perhaps the most remarkable item of Ruth memorabilia remains his 'most important bat', auctioned in the US. Last year, it slugged towards an incredible final hammer price of $537,750.
