Elvis Presley's hair to make $2,500 in March 22 sale in California?

A strand of Elvis Presley's hair is to feature in Premiere Props' March 22 sale in El Segundo, California.

The lot carries an estimate of $600-2,500.

It was collected by Homer M Gilleland, barber to the legendary singer early in his career, who gave it to a friend in the 1970s. It is sold along with a piece of the towel used during the cut.

Also featured is a strand of Marilyn Monroe's hair, which is also valued at $600-1,200.

Hairdresser Sydney Guilaroff acquired the clippings on the set of Something's Got to Give, the 1962 film that was abandoned after the star's death.

Guilaroff was chief hairstylist at MGM from the 1930s into the 1970s and is credited with the creation of some of the most iconic styles in film and television history - including Dorothy's braids in The Wizard of Oz and Lucille Ball's trademark red locks.

Hair from James Dean is also featured with an identical estimate.

The strands were gathered on the set of Giant (1956), the film that the actor was working on when he died.

We have certified genuine hair from Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley, presented in a presentation frame, at the bargain price of ?49.95 (around $82.50).

The auction will also feature a stunning James Dean photo archive.
