Expelliarmus! Severus Snape signed Harry Potter wand to auction for charity

With the final part of the Harry Potter series hitting the cinemas, it seems the power of the boy wizard to do good extends beyond the confines of the screen.

Or rather the more complex and ambiguous Severus Snape's ability does. Snape of course plays a crucial role in the final film of the series The Deathly Hallows, part 2.

The powerful earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand in February of this year seriously damaged two schools: Avonside Girl's High School and Shirley Primary School, and the charity Stars4Kids was launched in May to help raise funds for them.

One of the contributions to this cause will be a Harry Potter wand, the box for which has been signed by Alan Rickman, who plays Snape in the films. It is being offered on eBay Australia for the next week

The description claims that it is "currently the only Harry Potter wand worldwide that has been signed by Alan Rickman who plays Professor Severus Snape in all eight Potter films".

New to the site, it currently carries a bid of just AU$500 (US$535), but this may be expected to rise significantly over the next seven days before its sale on July 16.

As Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe is believed to have used/worn out 70 wands in the course of filming all the movies.

Memorabilia associated with the boy wizard can already be valuable, and is likely to become more so as those who love him most grow up, make money and look to recapture their childhood. Some of the best pieces make strong candidates for alternative investments.
