The Nobel Prize awarded to Francis Crick in 1962 for his co-discovery of the structure of DNA has sold this afternoon (April 11) at Heritage Auctions.

The medal brought an impressive $2.2m, spurred by the record-breaking sale of a letter relating to the remarkable discovery, at Christie's on April 10.
Francis Crick and James Watson were the first to create a model of DNA's double helix structure, advancing our understanding of the building blocks of life considerably.
Also featuring in the sale was the cheque that Crick received along with the award, selling for $77,675, which was joined by a selection of the scientist's personal items, including his lab coat and copy of Darwin's The Zoology of the Voyage of the HMS Beagle.
