'If it makes collectors happy...' Sheryl Crow's Mercedes could roll to $108,000

Her ex-boyfriend Eric Clapton's 2003 Ferrari 575 Maranello sold for $108,000 at an Historics at Brooklands classic car auction, over the weekend (July 23).

Now, presumably by coincidence, rock songstress Cheryl Crow is also getting involved in the collectibles markets by putting her own 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Roadster up for sale.

And Ms Crow hasn't chosen just any old auction house but Gooding & Company, whose auction block has previously been graced by some of the world's finest collectible automobiles.

The vintage Roadster is being sold for charity in aid of the tornado-hit city of Joplin, Missouri, US. It is planned that the money will be used to help rebuild the city's devastated schools.

Joplin was struck by a tornado in May of this year, claiming the lives of 23 people.

Rightly described by Gooding & Co as "an iconic, grand-touring convertible," the car is white with a hard top and whitewall tyres and was completely restored in 2005.

Beneath its exterior are new brakes, suspension and a Becker Mexico radio. This car is a true classic - unlike certain other celebrity-linked cars which have appeared on the markets recently.

This Ferrari owned by rocker Eric Clapton recently made £66,500

The car is reportedly a 'personal favourite' of Ms Crow, and is expected to sell for from $50,000 (£31,200) to $100,000 (£62,500) at the August 11 auction.

Even without its celebrity provenance, the stunning car is likely to do well in the sale - although ms Crow's involvement will no doubt help things along.

Crow, whose hits include If It Makes You Happy, remains one of the US's rock, pop and country artists, having one nine Grammy Awards and performed alongside the likes of Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson and Clapton.
