A daguerreotype of John D Rockefeller is expected to make in excess of $100,000 when it crosses the block at Goldin Auctions in New Jersey on May 9.
Rockefeller was the richest person of all time. When his wealth (mainly acquired from petroleum) is adjusted for interest, it stands at a staggering $336bn.

This portrait shows Rockefeller as a gawky teenager and was taken during the mid 1850s. It has undergone extensive 2D and 3D analysis to ensure correct identification.
