Lee Harvey Oswald letter to highlight October 24 auction

A handwritten letter by Lee Harvey Oswald will lead Phillip Weiss Auctions' October 24 auction.

The undated letter is believed to have been written and signed by Oswald in 1963, the year President Kennedy was assassinated. It was sent to the offices of the American Communist Party and reads:

"Dear Sirs: I have followed the activities of the C.P. for the last few years and have decided that it is very timely and correct for me at this time, to apply for membership in the Communist Party of the U.S.

"I wish to become a member so I may share as fully as is possible your trails (sic) and tribulations as well as your glories and victories."

An issue of Life Magazine, dating to 1949 and signed by celebrated artist Jackson Pollock will be another highlight. Pollock rarely gave autographs, making this example extremely rare.

An 1848 printed copy of the declaration of independence by Peter Force could also achieve a high figure at auction, as only 250 copies are known to exist.

We have this example of a Peter Force declaration, believed to be one of the finest examples known. It qualifies for our layaway plan.

A collection of items pertaining to Harry Houdini will also be offered - including handbills, adverts, business cards and more.

We have a wide selection of autographs from some of the most iconic names in history, ranging from JFK to Henry VIII. You can view our collection here.
