A small Lennon sketch of four people, possibly the Beatles, is also in evidence.

 

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was one of the more contentious Beatles songs. Argued by some to contain a reference to the drug LSD in its title, Lennon always maintained it had been inspired by his son Julian's painting of classmate Lucy Vodden.

Julian Lennon is a keen collector of memorabilia related to his father and the Beatles. In 2010 he published a book of his work: Beatles Memorabilia: The Julian Lennon Collection.

From an investment point of view, Julian is certainly on to something. Lennon cropped up at auction repeatedly in 2010 due to his 70th birthday (and 40th death anniversary) with a great deal of success.

For instance, John's handwritten lyrics to A Day in the Life made $1.2m at Sotheby's in 2010.
