'No shirt, nothing...' - the 'lost' football memorabilia of Eric Cantona
Cantona's infamous kung fu kick

Former Manchester United star Eric Cantona has revealed he no longer posseses any memorabilia from his career.

In an interview with the BBC, the Frenchman stated he has no idea where the five English league title or two FA Cup Winner's medals he won with Leeds United and Manchester United in the 1990s are located.

The many shirts he wore while playing for France are also unaccounted for.

"I played for France 45 times. We got two shirts for every game. I don't have even one," he said.

"I don't care about the past," continued the current director of football at New York Cosmos, who added that he prefers "to be free think about tomorrow".

The revelations are a mixed blessing for collectors and investors. While the chances of a Cantona game-worn shirt or winner's medal being available at auction are high, the sheer availability of the items could see prices fail to reach the heights we have seen for specimens from other big players.

Cantona retired in 1997 to concentrate on an acting career

Cantona perhaps exceeded David Beckham's popularity while at Manchester United. Both players are now extremely popular in the collectibles market.

One of the most expensive medals to sell at auction is that of England midfielder Alan Ball, whose World Cup winner's medal sold for £164,800 in 2005.
