Paul McCartney memorabilia will auction in New York

Veteran rock 'n' roll singer Steve Tyler is cleaning out his closet in more ways than one.

While news travels across Internet that he has quit his role as singer of Aerosmith after nearly 40 years, he is also auctioning a number of personal items at Julien's Auctions on November 21.

Along with Tyler's stage worn outfits, t-shirts, guitars, signed photos and "even my skivvies", signed memorabilia from other rock luminaries will also feature - including a number of Paul McCartney signed memorabilia sure to greatly exceed their estimates.

Among the McCartney items is an autographed Hofner Contemporary Series "violin" bass signed "Paul McCartney '09", estimated at $6,000-8,000.

Other items include an autographed limited-edition lithograph copy of the sheet music to McCartney's song Yesterday ($800-1,200).

A signed black and white Grammy Awards postcard, from the show's 50th Anniversary in 2008, featuring McCartney onstage with Wings ($800-1,200) will also be up for grabs.

Signed rock guitars can be great appreciating investments, and the Julien's sale has many.

A Gibson Explorer guitar in ebony signed by U2's Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr and Adam Clayton is estimated at $2,000-4,000. A Gibson Les Paul signed by Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood will also go under the hammer for the same price.

Meanwhile, an inkjet on canvas portrait painted and signed by Wood of his fellow Rolling Stone Keith Richards, entitled Pensive, will be offered for $800-1,200.

As the auction's name suggests, a range of flamboyant stage outfits worn by Tyler throughout his colourful career with Aerosmith make up most of the lots, most with estimates in the realm of $200.

However, the news that the current Aerosmith line-up has effectively come to an end could lend Tyler's items some historical weight, and possibly push up their value.

The live auction will take place at the Hard Rock Cafe, Times Square, New York on November 21. The sale can also be followed on the Julien's Auctions website.
