Posters selling today for up to £170k

They've been collecting for five decades, assembling posters from 312 films, but today a collector in the British County of Berkshire is cashing in to the tune of £120,000-170,000.

The posters span a number of the most famous films and actors. These include: Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart and Steve McQueen with Hepburn and McQueen in arguably their most famous roles in Breakfast at Tiffany's and The Great Escape.

The Bogart poster is expected to be the pick of the sale. It is an original poster from 1941 for High Sierra, estimated at £10,000 because of the rarity.

A number of the posters are valuable due to rarity, such as a poster for From Russia With Love with Sean Connery in the first showing of his classic arms crossed-with-gun James Bond pose. The pose may have influenced the estimate of £3,500 as much as the rarity.

Some were only ever displayed for a very short amount of time, such as the original poster for Star Wars which was replaced after six weeks with the much more famous one. This centres on a stressed looking Mark Hamill, with droids behind him and other characters in the background. This is worth £1,500.

All the posters are original, first print run items.

Film memorabilia in general has increased in value due to the growing number of collectors in parts of the world such as China and Russia, who are interested in Hollywood films.
