Rapper Nate Dogg's death could see spike in hip-hop collectibles

US rapper Nate Dogg died earlier this week at the age of 41.

The hip-hop star died as a result of complications following two recent strokes.

He collaborated with a huge number of major artists, including Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Warren G, Ludacris, Dr Dre and 50 Cent.

Nate Dogg's death could see items connected with the star become increasingly desirable as fans and investors look to acquire mementoes from his past.

Rap memorabilia can be big business. Last year Jay Z sold five pairs of unique Nike trainers he had designed.  Each item made more than $1,500, with proceeds going to his scholarship foundation.

It has been suggested that the price of memorabilia connected with Fugees singer Wyclef Jean could increase dramatically should the star ever become president of Haiti, as is his stated aim.

Nate Dogg, Snoop and Warren G began their careers together in the early 1990s as a rap trio called 212.

Snoop Dogg said on Twitter that Nate Dogg was "one of my best friends and a brother to me since 1986 when I was a sophomore at Poly High where we met".

The British reggae scene is also in mourning this week following the death of Smiley Culture during a police raid at his home in Surrey.

The south Londoner was best known for 80s hits Cockney Translation and Police Officer.
