The Amazing Spider-Man #1 vs Batman's first appearance in US auction

The Amazing Spider-Man #1 and Detective Comics #27 will do battle in a sale of vintage comics to be held May 10-11, 2012.

The Dallas sale will see two of the comic book world's most beloved heroes competing for top lot as their first appearances both come to auction. Online bidding is already underway in the bout, with Batman's first outing leading the sale.

Batman Spider Man
Detective Comics Issue #27

The Detective Comics #27 issue or "The Case of the Chemical Syndicate" sees Bruce Wayne tackle his old business partners as the Batman to resolve a murder case.

A landmark issue for D.C Comics, the 1939 copy spawned a franchise that continues today, with Batman becoming one of the best-loved comic book heroes in history. Bids are currently at the $85,000 mark with interest from nine separate bidders.

Hot on Batman's heels is the first issue of The Amazing Spider-Man from Marvel. The comic book giant released The Amazing Spider-Man #1 after he saw success in the final issue of Amazing Fantasy, a series published by Marvel in 1962.

He appeared in this solo series a year later in 1963, which has gone on to become the most collected comic book in history.

In this issue, Peter Parker has become the Spider-Man and is investigating the mysterious death of his uncle Ben. His investigation leads him to battle with his first foe, The Chameleon. The added bonus of Spider-Man meeting The Fantastic Four for the first time makes this a must have for dedicated Spidey fans.

Bids for this sought-after issue have reached $70,000, and with 16 days to go before the live auction, both comics are set to reach astronomical prices.

Paul Fraser Collectibles will bring you the results from the exciting sale as soon as they are available. Be sure to check back soon.
