The King and I... The collectible legacy of the women in Elvis's life

The former wife of Elvis, Priscilla Presley, was born today in 1945.

Her seven year marriage to Elvis ended in 1973 but her collectibles, and that of the daughter they had together, Lisa Marie Presley, remain popular with investors.

Signed photos of Priscilla often change hands for significant sums, while Lisa Marie Presley and Michael Jackson's 1994 marriage certificate sold for $70,800 in 2010 at Philip Weiss Auctions. The couple's marriage lasted until 1996.

The anonymous winner commented: "Several years ago [my wife and I] were outbid on the marriage certificate signed by Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller and I did not want to miss the chance to own this one. We were very excited."

'The King' still rules, however, when it comes to collectibles, including his hair.

In 2002 a bag of cuttings was sold by Homer "Gill" Gilleland (Presley's personal barber) for $115,000 during an online sale, and a single hair from Elvis's head made $1,750 at a British auction in 2009.

Investors looking for their own piece of Elvis's hair may find success at asmallpieceofhistory.com, where samples from his 1958 'army cut' are on offer.
