The photograph was taken the day after the collision

The photograph was taken by the chief steward aboard the Prinz Adalbert, which passed by the site of the wreck shortly afterwards.

It's accompanied by a note that reads: "On the day after the sinking of the Titanic, the steamer Prinz Adalbert passes the iceberg shown in this photograph.

"The Titanic disaster was not yet known by us. On one side red paint was plainly visible, which has the appearance of having been made by the scraping of a vessel on the iceberg."

Auctioneer Andrew Aldridge comments: "The photograph was acquired not long after the Titanic's sinking by Burlingham, Montgomery & Beecher, attorneys for Titanic's owners, White Star Line.

"This photograph, regarded by generations of Burlingham maritime lawyers as 'The Titanic Iceberg' hung on the firm's walls from 1913 until it closed in 2002.

"It is now being offered for sale on behalf of the four attorneys who were still partners of the firm at the time of its demise."

Another photograph of the iceberg, taken by the captain of the SS Estonian two days before the Titanic collided with it, sold for $21,000 at RR Auction in 2012.

The sale will also offer a biscuit salvaged from one of the ship's lifeboats. It will auction with a ?10,000 ($15,367) estimate.

We have this section of carpet for sale from the 1997 blockbuster film Titanic, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
